De Vere Wotton House: Quality and longevity
In 2017 the finishing touches were made to the £6m refurbishment of the De Vere Wotton House hotel near Dorking, the flagship hotel in the Principal Hotel group.
The quality and guest experience demanded of such an outstanding hotel required the best performance and most beautiful finishes available.
For the main refurbishment project the challenge was to create exquisite, classic interiors with a modern twist to a quality standard equal to the brand, and up to the highly demanding nature of a hotel environment.
The contractor ISG was awarded the project, and Michael Nutt Decorators sub-contracted to do all the painting and decorating. Because of Michael’s experience using our paint and its exceptional durability, drying times, quality, odour free formulae and coverage we were specified to supply the paint for 80% of the project.
The refurbishment of the De Vere Wotton House was completed in stages over nine months and was highly acclaimed in the press when it first opened. Over a year later the surfaces painted with Paintfinity still look fabulous.
However, the same could not be said for the few walls painted with an alternate major paint brand. It was not long after opening that the maintenance team first noticed the finishes on walls, trim and doors not painted with Paintfinity were becoming marked and scuffed. For such a prestigious hotel, expectations for maintaining the fabric of the buildings was high. Therefore, the team contacted us and had all failed surfaces re-painted, but this time with Paintfinity.
The team noticed a marked improvement in the performance of surfaces painted with Paintfinity compared to the alternate major paint brand. They also found that instead of touching-in any marks these could be removed by the cleaning staff quickly and efficiently. This means they need to re-decorate less frequently, making substantial saving to the hotel maintenance bill.
In addition, the team at Wotton House were faced with the challenge of how to carry out ongoing necessary maintenance work ensuring the newly refurbished hotel remained perfect, whilst not inconveniencing guests or impacting in any way on the enjoyment of their stay.
The requirement for an exceptional guest experience has historically meant that re-furbishing, or carrying out maintenance work on an area of a hotel required rooms to be out of action for periods of time. You had to allow for decorating, paint drying time and for paint odours to disappear. This can lead to lost revenue due to down time, or you run the risk of customer complaints.
By using Paintfinity when they re-decorate a room the team have found that they can minimise room voids due to Paintfinity’s quick drying, odour free formulae. Rooms can be decorated in the morning and slept in that night.
When asked, “Will you continue to use Paintfinity?” Nick Bell, Chief Engineer at Wotton House said, “Yes, as it’s the best product around. It’s odour-less, easy to touch up and wipe clean, and saves so much time, they can always colour match what-ever colour we need and are very quick with deliveries.”
